Editorial Standards
These standards govern the new edition of Local Headlines Now.
Evidence before publication
Articles must identify a verifiable development and link to relevant sources. Official records, direct statements and original documents take priority where available. Claims from social media require corroboration appropriate to their seriousness. Popularity alone is not verification.
Value for readers
Rewriting another publisher is not enough. Coverage should add a useful explanation, relevant background, comparison of evidence or practical public information. We will not invent interviews, eyewitness accounts, quotations or expertise.
Accuracy and uncertainty
Headlines must reflect the evidence. Allegations must be attributed. Developing information must be labelled, and significant uncertainty explained. A death, criminal allegation or public-safety claim requires particular care.
Authorship and automation
Bylines must identify the person responsible. AI may assist research organisation or drafting, but cannot serve as a source or replace factual checks. Substantial use of automation should be explained where relevant to understanding an article.
Updates, corrections and commercial interests
Material updates should be dated. Significant errors should receive a visible correction. Advertising, sponsored material and affiliate relationships must be distinguished from editorial reporting. We do not accept payment for undisclosed favourable coverage.
